Plans For A New School In Bristol Revealed

Plans for a new 420-pupil school in south Bristol are now available for local people to view.

The school is to be run as a new academy on the former City of Bristol College Marksbury Road site, and is part of a local regeneration project for the area which is being led in partnership with the Homes and Community Agency (HCA). The project includes a new health centre, mix of homes and employment space.

Local people have been invited to consultation meetings to learn more and share views on the detailed plans. Following further design work, the former college will now be completely replaced to allow for a landmark building for the area. If plans are approved, the new school design would provide a high quality replacement for the old college building and an excellent bespoke learning environment for local children. There will also be the opportunity for community use of certain school facilities such as hall space and outside games areas.

Mayor of Bristol, George Ferguson, said: "This corner of Filwood deserves a landmark development to help boost opportunities for work and regeneration. It isn't often that we get such an opportunity to create a brand new inner-city school as space is at a premium but I'm confident that these new plans will deliver an excellent building for local families to enjoy for many generations."

HCA Head of Area, David Warburton said: "We are fully supportive of the council's aim to deliver a superb new school on this site, which will form the centrepiece of this exciting and vitally important regeneration project. We are determined to deliver a project that people in South Bristol can be proud of and feel that the extra investment we are making in the project will be worthwhile."
