Clegg Construction has started work on a £3.8m project to redevelop two existing buildings for the new Science & Innovation Park at the University of Lincoln.
The construction firm is redeveloping Becor House, now renamed as Joseph Bank Laboratories in honour of Sir Joseph Banks, and Minister House to accommodate the School of Life Sciences and the School of Pharmacy. The project is due to be completed in December 2013.
The University of Lincoln formed a partnership with the Lincolnshire Co-operative to develop the new Science & Innovation Park located to the south of the university campus. Clegg Construction was appointed for the first time by Banks Long to begin the first phase of the development.
Simon Blackburn, Managing Director at Clegg Construction, said: "The project involves the refurbishment and extension of Becor House, together with the refurbishment of Minster House and includes both structural alterations to create new entrances and improve the interiors of the existing buildings.
"The design provides over 6,000 square meters of teaching, research and learning space and brings them together into a single connecting learning environment. Formal and informal spaces throughout the facilities will be shared by undergraduates, postgraduates and staff members."
In addition, a new social learning hub will be constructed at the rear of the building and a new entrance lobby will be built on the north elevation. The new entrance will be connected to the teaching spaces, laboratories, offices and new learning spaces provided on each level.
When working on the design of the Joseph Banks Laboratories and Minister House, Clegg Construction has collaborated with a team including teaching and research staff, estates and ICT professionals, architects and engineers.
