FM Conway To Develop 'Heathrow Asphalt' Plant

FM Conway is set to boost its asphalt manufacturing and recycling capacity by developing a new state-of-the-art plant near Heathrow, Middlesex.

The new £10m 'Heathrow Asphalt' plant will enable the company to efficiently serve highways clients and partners in west London – providing 24-hour security of supply and the capacity to produce up to 300,000 tonnes of asphalt per annum.

FM Conway has received planning consent for the new plant from the London Borough of Hillingdon and it is aiming for the site to be fully operational by April 2014.

The facility will support FM Conway's unique self-delivery model and will bolster its existing asphalt plant at Erith, Kent, which is currently producing up to 400,000 tonnes of asphalt per year. The plant has helped the firm to drive a strategy based on recycling and can deliver asphalt with up to 85% Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) content.

Located next to the Grand Union Canal, the new plant will provide the firm with the scope to potentially use the waterway to transport aggregates in order to minimise truck movements.

The plant will also feature aggregate crushing, screening and washing equipment to ensure the best use of all reclaimed materials. Half of FM Conway's volumetric mixer fleet will be based at the Heathrow site, providing both high and low strength concrete mixes to meet customer needs across west London.
