British Gas customers will no longer face early cancellation fees if they want to switch from one British Gas tariff to another.
The energy supplier has removed cancellation fees for customers on British Gas' new and existing range of fixed and variable tariffs who want to switch to a British Gas deal that now better suits their needs.
British Gas is the only supplier to contact customers every six months with a personalised 'Tariff Check' setting out ways to save money – including moving to a different tariff if it’s cheaper for them.
Ian Peters, Managing Director of Residential Energy at British Gas, said: "We believe buying energy should be simple, transparent and fair for customers. That’s why we introduced Tariff Check, a free six-monthly MOT in which we tell customers if they could save money by moving to another British Gas tariff.
"If customers want to move to a different British Gas deal because their needs have changed, we want to make it quick and easy for them to do so.
"We've also simplified tariffs, made comparison of prices easier to understand and led the way on clearer bills. We hope this change will give our customers more flexibility, and ensure they get the best tariff for them."
Cancellation fees have been removed from existing tariffs that are no longer available in the market as well new tariffs that are currently available to buy.
