Work to transform the heart of Park Wood took a step closer this week when Golding Homes invited local partners and residents to see first hand the demolition of some outdated flats in Longshaw Road.

This marks the start of the first phase of this major £38m regeneration project and follows two year of consultation with the local community. Phase 1 will see the creation of 51 new houses, 18 apartments, a community centre and improvements to the park. Subject to planning permission, Phase 2 is due to start later this year and will see the demolition of flats between Longshaw Road and Bicknor Road, making way for 77 family homes and a new shopping parade.

Golding Homes chief executive, Peter Stringer said: "This is a momentous day for us as it marks the start of a long awaited scheme that will transform this area of Park Wood. The local community has been heavily involved in shaping our plans that will create a modern, more vibrant place for local residents to live."

Trustee of the Fusion Project in Park Wood, Mike Fitzgerald, said: "This development doesn't just bring new homes and new residents; it brings a fresh vision while at the same time re-inventing the 'hub' of Park Wood."
