Construction union UCATT is to ballot its members at Kier Services after the company imposed a change in the date its workforce are paid.

Ballot papers will be sent to UCATT members on Friday 2nd August and the ballot will close on Monday 19th August. UCATT members will be asked to support strike action and industrial action short of strike action. UCATT have already conducted a consultative ballot on this matter, where members strongly supported taking industrial action.

Despite the best efforts of UCATT representatives, the company refused to enter into meaningful negotiations with the union over its decision to change the pay date from the 15th to the 28th of each month. Members believe that the change in pay date is a precursor to further attacks on their pay and conditions.

Steve Murphy, General Secretary of UCATT, said: "Kier has failed to enter into meaningful negotiation with UCATT. The company’s decision to impose this change without agreement means that members now believe that undertaking industrial action is unfortunately their only option."

UCATT will be balloting their members at: Gosport, Harlow, Islington, North Tyneside, Stoke and Southend.
