Kier Builds New Environmentally Friendly Homes

Working with Sanctuary Group, Kier has brought about a remarkable transformation at the sites in Southview Road, Smallcombe Road and Langridge Road, replacing post-war concrete properties with high-specification houses and bungalows, including four that have been specially adapted for people with disabilities.

The new environmentally-friendly properties are of a timber frame construction and will be heated using the latest air source heat pump technology.

This £9m development was funded by Sanctuary Group, supported by investment from the Homes and Communities Agency (£2.1m) and Torbay Council. The scheme has been welcomed by both the council and Torbay Development Agency as it is helping to provide much-needed affordable housing for rent in the area, and has also made a significant impact to the regeneration of this part of Paignton.

Kier Living used local resources to complete the 75 houses and seven bungalows in Brookman Court, Tavistow Court, Langridge Road and Southcombe Terrace, and gave several young apprentices the opportunity to learn a new trade during construction.

Mike Santon, Sanctuary's head of development for the south-west, said: "This scheme has been completed on schedule and has delivered all that it promised at the outset. Run down properties have been transformed to provide a range of affordable accommodation for local people in Paignton to rent, all high quality, energy efficient homes in the heart of the local community.

"Furthermore, it has created training opportunities for local people to learn new trades, which we hope will help them secure future employment."
