Kier To Begin Café Culture Revamp

Working on behalf of West Norfolk Council, Kier will start work later this month on a scheme to create a café culture and boost trade in the town of King's Lynn.

Councillors have given the final approval for the £900,000 makeover for King's Lynn's Tuesday Market Place. The scheme involves transforming the southern (High Street) end of the market place into an area of public space with outdoor eating zones, large planters and seating.

New surfacing will be laid on the remaining car park, where the current 245 spaces will be reduced to 195. The new layout will include 12 spaces for disabled drivers and two for taxi use.

The top layer of the car park will be removed and a variety of surfaces laid over the new parking and pedestrianised areas during August and September. Ducts will be installed for cables and drainage work carried out.

The scheme will be carried out by Kier in partnership with Norfolk County Council's highways team, on behalf of West Norfolk Council. Work and should be complete in time for the Christmas shopping period in November 2013.
