The launch of a new procurement strategy for the construction industry in Wales will be welcomed by Finance Minister Jane Hutt.
Following publication of the Constructing Excellence in Wales' No Turning Back report in late 2010, the Finance Minister established the Construction Procurement Steering Group to respond to the recommendations contained within the report. The Strategy being launched today has been developed by the Steering Group.
She said: "Investing in construction provides a great opportunity to deliver much more than new buildings and roads. By applying intelligent and innovative procurement strategy and policy, we can use this investment to help provide jobs, training and contract opportunities which is key to our agenda to support jobs and growth in Wales.
"Thanks to the Construction Procurement Steering Group the Strategy that is being launched today has been produced by the construction industry, for the construction industry.
"The focus of the Strategy complements the Wales Procurement Policy that I published in December last year and supports my view that we can use intelligent procurement policy to deliver cost effective outcomes that also provide social, economic and environmental benefits to Wales. Balancing the need to deliver both good cost and quality outcomes in construction is key."
