Carillion has announced it has become a partner of the Supply Chain Sustainability School (SCSS).

Established last year, the School aims to help construction suppliers and subcontractors develop their sustainability knowledge and competence.

Addressing environmental and social sustainability issues within construction supply chains, SCSS offers a virtual learning environment, self-assessment tools and free, practical support to develop bespoke action plans for continuous improvement.

Designed to help address the challenges faced by the construction industry, and to help the supply chain benefit from the many new sustainable business opportunities, SCSS represents a common approach to promoting sustainability across a diverse and dynamic sector.

So far it has attracted more than 2,500 members from 1,200 supplier organisations.

Carillion's decision to support the School as a partner strengthens further its position as a leader in sustainability, and in delivering sustainable solutions for customers and partners.

Ian Heptonstall, Director for the School commented: "It is great news to be able to welcome Carillion to the School, they are an organisation with significant experience of sustainability issues in the built environment and I look forward to working with them to help drive the School's membership to 5,000 by the end of 2014."
