Morgan Sindall's Hull Project Wins Three Major Awards

Kingswood Academy in Hull has won three major architectural awards.

The school, designed by architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris and built by Morgan Sindall, won a RIBA Yorkshire award and a RIBA National award. It also won Hull City Council RIBA Yorkshire Client of the Year.

Built as one of Hull City Council's £400m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, Kingswood Academy was completed in January 2013 and features state-of-the-art technology. It includes media facilities, a recording studio, and industry-standard science, fine art and technology facilities.

The school also houses a theatre, to be used for both the school and local community productions, and features a dedicated 'plaza' entrance and box office.

The design of the building was a collaborative process between the architect and Morgan Sindall, with Allford Hall Monaghan Morris leading on design and the contractor making final decisions.

Steffan Speer, Hull BSF General Manager for Morgan Sindall, said: "It was very much a team effort when it came to the design of the building. The customer wanted an inspiring school that could engage students, and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris led the design process. We were able to bring to bear our extensive experience of working on schools to help shape circulation routes and classroom adjacencies. We’re delighted that this work has been recognised by RIBA."
