Balfour Beatty has commenced the installation of the glass cladding on the London 2012 Aquatics Centre to reveal Zaha Hadid's original design.
The installation of the 628 panes of glass will take 70 days with a team of six installing one pane at a time. The average size for each is pane is 1500mm x 3000mm weighing 250kg. The glass has been printed with a dot matrix pattern which varies in size and pattern over the elevations and is designed to partially restrict vision through the glass to protect the privacy of the Centre's users and to allow natural daylight to flow through.
Balfour Beatty's completion of these legacy works is programmed for December 2013.
