Mansell has been appointed to design and build new student accommodation buildings at Ravenscourt House, in Hammersmith, London.
The development in Paddenswick Road will consist of three new buildings and will contain 234 self-contained studio bedrooms. Retaining the traditional brick styling of the surrounding Edwardian and Victorian buildings the new buildings will be three, six and seven storeys tall.
The existing basements will be adapted to carry the new structures using secant waterproofing while the above ground structures will be of strong and durable reinforced concrete frame. Externally, to aid the speed of construction, pre-cast brickwork panels will be used extensively with zinc rainscreen cladding to the upper external façade for visual effect.
The construction will also see laundry, common room and cycle store facilities built as well as a plantroom and newly landscaped courtyard areas.
Finally, a pre-school child nursery for the adjacent John Betts Primary School will be constructed and located on the ground floor of the three storey building.
The project is being carried out for South Street Asset Management Ltd and the development is due to be complete in Autumn 2014.
