BAM Construction has won a £12.5 million job to build new facilities for Adel Beck Secure Children's Home in Leeds.

The contractor, which has offices in the Yorkshire city, will construct the new accommodation adjacent to the site of the out-dated existing buildings.

BAM will create 24 bedrooms, a teaching block, a canteen, leisure facilities and administrative space.

The buildings will be predominately single storey to conform with government guidelines. Security and surveillance measures will be a high priority.


BAM will carry out extensive enabling works including access road improvements, demolition and car park creation.

Work on the pre-cast concrete frame will begin in August, with completion scheduled for January 2015.

The architect is Keppie Design. BAM Plant is providing site accommodation, temporary electrics, fire detection and communications.

BAM construction director John Phillips said: "We look forward to working with Leeds City Council to provide these much needed facilities in Leeds.

"As always, BAM will work hard to ensure the project benefits the local economy and environment as well as staff and children at the home."
