Plans To Go On Display For Redevelopment Of Leisureworld

Residents will be asked for their views on the East Riding council's proposals for a £20 million redevelopment of Leisure World, Bridlington, with plans going on display this month.

As part of the council's £123 million capital investment programme for 2013-14, a commitment has been made to create a multipurpose facility in the town to meet Bridlington's future needs, providing a high-quality, sustainable facility to meet the expectations of residents and visitors for years to come.

The new building will be located on the existing Leisure World site, with the design aiming to fully exploit the unique potential of this location, encouraging local participation in sport, whilst also harnessing the seasonal spend of visitors, through connectivity to the seafront and promenade, creating an accessible and sustainable venue for all to enjoy.

The consultation will include public viewings at Leisure World on Monday, 10 and Tuesday, 11 June, from 2-7pm, and on the Bridlington Leisure World website

Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "The council is committed to providing the best possible services for residents and visitors and in boosting the local economy.

"An economically buoyant Bridlington is vital, not just for local people but for the wider East Riding and the council has a strong track record of investing in the town’s infrastructure, including the refurbishment of The Spa Bridlington and our work, alongside the Heritage Lottery Fund, at Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

"I would urge our residents to get involved in the consultation and provide us with constructive feedback for the plans to redevelop Leisure World, which will provide short and long term benefits for Bridlington."

The design for the new Leisure World facility aims to create an environment that will act as a symbol in promoting health, leisure and wellbeing, adding to the town centre offer for locals and visitors alike.
