Carillion has been selected for a £47 million batch of the Government's Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP).

The project is predominantly for new-build, with one school having a small refurbishment element.

North West Batch 1 being delivered by Carillion covers eight schools in the local authority areas of Blackpool, Cheshire West and Chester, Halton, Manchester, and Tameside.

Design on the schemes has already commenced, with work on site due to start from the end of September and completion scheduled for mid 2015.

As well as putting sustainable construction at the heart of its delivery solution for the schools, Carillion is also committed to supporting local communities and working with local suppliers wherever possible.

This includes offering training, apprenticeship and job opportunities.

Mark Nicholson, Carillion Operations Director on the Project, said: "The PSBP is a flagship initiative and we are delighted to have been selected by the Education Funding Agency to deliver North West Batch 1.

At Carillion we have already completed or are currently developing more than 150 new schools and academies across the UK, and today's announcement confirms our strength and presence in this sector."
