Kier Construction has been appointed as the preferred bidder for the redevelopment and construction of the Black Country University Technical College.

The site will be completely transformed, creating a state-of-the-art learning environment for 14 to 19-year-olds with a passion for engineering and science.

The Vernon Way campus will soon have a brand new technical centre showcasing engineering, such as computer aided design, graphic design, robotics, CNC workshops, electronics and automation.

In addition to this, the science department will have a high-tech lab modelled on a live research centre, allowing students to conduct experiments and investigations in a highly professional way, using top of the range equipment.

The UTC will have a feature walkway, named the 'Street', which will lead to all science and engineering departments and main subject rooms. In the science area students will have the option to study in the garden areas, and will also be able to relax in the seated and recreational areas, including the new five-a-side football pitch on the outside grounds.

Among the newly-designed corridors, there will be a range of break-out centres and a Learning Resource Centre for effective study time. Conference facilities, a cyber café, and a test track for trialling robotics and four wheel drive vehicles are all part of the design.
