Ten unemployed young people in Nottingham have been offered employment following a work experience programme pioneered by the Prince’s Trust and VINCI Construction UK.
The training programme was carried out at Byron House, VINCI Construction UK's £41.3m student accommodation scheme in Nottingham City Centre, and was designed to provide local unemployed people aged between 18-25 with experience, contacts, confidence and prospects.
A range of career opportunities have since been offered to the group through VINCI Construction UK's subcontractors in various trades, including scaffolding, plastering, roofing, mechanical and electrical, brickwork, cladding and joinery.
Following their time on site, a presentation was delivered to Councillor Nick McDonald, VINCI Construction UK, The Prince's Trust and Nottingham City Council's Employer Hub to demonstrate how working on a live construction site has changed their outlook on life.
"I have had a great experience with VINCI Construction UK and the Prince’s Trust," said 23-year-old Tom Archer.
"It helped me learn the tricks of the trade and what life would be like working on a construction site. As a result, my hard work and determination has got me a job."
Project Manager Brian Scott said: "VINCI Construction UK has been actively involved with the Prince’s Trust in Nottingham for the past three years and has seen excellent results. From the 30 candidates we have had from all of our programmes in the city, 24 have secured employment on our projects."
