The £5 million regeneration of Riverhead Square and Station Approach in Grimsby, designed by LDA Design has started on site.
LDA Design was appointed by Balfour Beatty Living Places – NELC's Local Enterprise Partner to design and deliver the two projects, working in close collaboration with Parsons Brinckerhoff, as part of a wider regeneration initiative for the town centre.
The work will see Birse Civils relocate the existing bus station on Riverhead Square to accommodate a possible extension of Freshney Place shopping centre. Bus stops will instead be located on George Street, Victoria Street and Town Hall Street, with an indoor waiting area providing electronic real time information included in the shopping centre extension.
The Station Approach project will include a cycle sales and hire facility and aims to improve links to the bus terminus, providing an attractive gateway to the town centre.
The schemes won £4.3 million of funding from the Government's Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) in addition to £850,000 from North East Lincolnshire Council. They are expected to start on site in the spring of 2013 and complete in early 2014.
