Hundreds of households in Redbridge, East London are set to benefit from warmer homes and lower heating bills thanks to a £10 million green energy initiative by support services provider Carillion, Redbridge Council and Scottish Power.
EcoPods, an award-winning low carbon heating solution system by Carillion, will also be fitted to six high rise apartment blocks
Under the partnership, 620 homes on the Orchard Estate, Woodford Green will receive a mix of external wall insulation, replacement boilers and 'A' rated double glazing.
The project is being majority financed through the Government's Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP) - with £9.2 million coming from Carillion's funding partner Scottish Power.
As one of the UK's largest energy suppliers, Scottish Power is a key contributor to CESP, which is worth £350 million in total and is designed to make whole house and whole area energy improvements.
Throughout the 36-week programme Carillion will be working closely with the community and providing monthly newsletters to update all residents.
Together with its supply chain partner Lawtech it will also be looking to provide training and jobs for local people.
Stephen Hodgson, from Carillion Energy Services, said: "Raising the energy efficiency of homes is the most sustainable way to cut heating bills and carbon and we are delighted to be working so collaboratively with the Redbridge Council and Scottish Power to deliver these real benefits.
"This is also one of our largest single projects for installing EcoPods and we are confident they will bring significant cost and carbon savings on a community-wide scale. Indications from comparison sites with an EcoPod system indicate that residents will see significant savings on their fuel bills."
