The Construction Health & Safety Group (CHSG), has presented housing developer Lovell's London region with two major awards in recognition of its work promoting safety in the construction industry.
Lovell was awarded the sought-after Beaumont Safety Trophy – which recognises the best new working methods to prevent construction industry accidents – at the CHSG Annual Awards.
The award is for an innovative project on tower crane rescue which the company undertook with engineering students at Queen Elizabeth's (QE) Grammar School for Boys in Barnet. Lovell tasked the Engineering Education Scheme students to provide a workable solution for rescuing an incapacitated operator trapped in a tower crane. The QE students have gone on to present their ideas to some of the UK’s leading construction industry organisations, crane operators and health and safety groups who have expressed an interest in taking their solution to production stage and sponsoring the students' university studies.
The Safety Trophy was awarded at the CHSG Annual Dinner at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel in London. CHSG, which has a sixty-year history of providing training and support to the construction industry, also presented Lovell with the Outstanding Contribution to Safety Training award.
