Willmott Dixon has been appointed for a £17m contract by Liverpool City Council to deliver a new building for the Archbishop Beck School.
The school is part of the Council's plan to rebuild and refurbish the schools that was put on hold when the national Building Schools for the Future programme was cancelled in 2010.
Procured through Scape, designed by Sheppard Robson and engineered by Mouchel, the school will be an exemplar of sustainable features, including a solar panelled roof to generate electricity. State of the art facilities will include a theatre, recording and dance studies and basketball courts.
Subject to planning permission being granted, the new school will be built on the former Long Lane council depot creating more space and better access than the current site in Walton. The school will open in time for the start of the academic year in September 2014.
