A ceremony has taken place at BBG Academy to celebrate the progress made in the construction of the £5m extension to the facility on Bradford Road.
The event marked the completion of the 160 tonne steel frame of the academy's 3,000 sq m new build extension, which is being delivered by Wates Construction.
Work on the facility began in October last year following Wates’ appointment to the project by the BBG Academy Trust. The building works will see the academy expand its current capacity of 400 to accommodate 750 students aged 11 to 16 years.
The project will also include the refurbishment of the existing 2,775 sq m school building and the construction of a new central 'heart' courtyard, which will become the school’s focal point. Designed by Halliday Clark, the new facility will offer state-of-the-art sports facilities, a resource centre and adult learning provision, all of which will be available for community use.
Formerly Birkenshaw Middle School, BBG Academy carries a science specialism and serves the communities of Birkenshaw, Birstall, East Bierley and Gomersal. The school will remain open throughout the building works.
