Barrier On North Cross Roundabout To Be Upgraded

Work to upgrade the inner safety barrier on North Cross roundabout will get under way on Monday 25 February.

This will be done in parallel with works already under way to improve the pedestrian and cycle facilities in the centre of the roundabout.

While the inner barriers on the roundabout are being replaced, the inside lane will be closed to traffic for safety reasons, and the number of lanes on approach roads will be reduced from three to two while the works are in progress. There will be no road closures but drivers are advised that there may be delays. Bus operators have been informed.

In the centre of North Cross roundabout, the current makeover has already seen new trees planted and better lighting installed. Work is now under way to replace benches, repair or replace broken paving slabs and reduce clutter by removing unnecessary guardrails. Access for pedestrians and cyclists is being maintained at all times.

The new 'portrait bench' funded by Sustrans will also be installed to make the area more pleasant for people to walk and cycle through. Following a public vote, the bench will feature depictions of Plymouth’s servicemen and women, Scott of the Antarctic and Charles Darwin.

Both projects are being delivered by Plymouth Transport and Highways, the partnership between Plymouth City Council and Amey, and should be complete within four weeks.
