Residents Urged To Apply For Home Energy Grants

Residents across Bristol are being urged to apply for home energy improvement grants to help them cut their bills before this Friday's, February 22nd, deadline.

The scheme was launched in December last year and has received over 200 enquiries. Money is still available from the £2 million Bristol Home Energy Upgrade and will be earmarked for heating system upgrades. Residents with old boilers or no central heating could be eligible.

Bristol Home Energy Upgrade is available to homeowners, including landlords, within the Bristol City Council area.

Applicants in receipt of pension credit or income based Child tax credit may be entitled to claim a very high percentage of the cost of installation.

The scheme is testing aspects of the Government’s Green Deal and is being led by Bristol City Council and managed by the Centre for Sustainable Energy.

The CSE has a freephone helpline to offer advice - 0800 082 2234. Customers will then need to have a Green Deal Advice report to see what they are entitled to which is likely to cost between £100 to £200. This will be refunded once the work is completed.

Phillip Morris, Head of Household Energy Services at the Centre for Sustainable Energy, said: "Our Home Energy Team will be there to guide the customer through the process from application to completion. Our team of experienced energy advisors will be able to help identify the best options for the customer's home."
