Two new schools will be built and three others expanded under plans unveiled by Surrey County Council to create 885 new places for pupils.

The proposed investment, which is part of a programme to meet an increase in demand from surging birth rates, is revealed in a new report to the Cabinet.


During the council tax announcement plans were revealed to invest £10m in raising school standards while also providing 12,000 extra classroom places.

Surrey County Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Learning Linda Kemeny said: "An increase in demand for places means we have to act now to ensure those extra 12,000 children wanting to go to a Surrey school have a classroom to learn in.

"That's also why during the recent council tax announcement we proposed to invest £10 million in schools to make sure every child in Surrey gets the best possible education."
