Call For Public Opinion On Sizewell Emergency Arrangements

Suffolk Resilience Forum is asking the public to have their say on proposed changes to existing emergency planning arrangements at Sizewell power station.

These changes are a result of recommendations following the Fukushima incident in 2011, which will affect the precautionary safety zones surrounding all UK nuclear power stations. These zones are designed to protect people by providing information and direct support in the event of an incident at Sizewell.

Suffolk Resilience Forum is reviewing Sizewell's Off Site Emergency Plan, which is set to be published in June 2013. This must reflect the review of the safety zones and the fact that Sizewell A is no longer generating energy, having been decommissioned in 2006.

A major part of the review involves listening to the views of residents who live within the immediate detailed emergency planning zone – now proposed at up to 4kms from the Sizewell site – and those who live within the wider precautionary planning zone of up to 15kms from the site.

The meetings will take place on Wednesday 20 February 2013 from 3pm to 7pm, followed by a public meeting from 8-9pm.
