Power On Connections, specialists in the design, build and delivery of new HV and LV electrical infrastructure, has been shortlisted for a major, national award.
The Leicestershire-based company with a nationwide footprint has been selected as a finalist in the Site Preparation and Services Specialist of the Year category in the annual Construction News Specialist Awards. Designed to recognise and reward specialist contractors from across the construction industry, the awards take into consideration innovation, growth, health & safety best practice and environmental awareness as well as clear demonstration of a company’s excellence in their field.
In the last 12 months, Power On Connections has recorded some notable achievements. The company set a new benchmark for the way electricity is provided, becoming the first Independent Connections Provider (ICP) in the UK to be accredited by Lloyds Register for 11kV Operational work associated with Self-Connection. Self-Connection eliminates the need for the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) to complete the final connection to power up a site, meaning ICPs can offer the ‘true’ turnkey package, representing substantial time and cost savings for construction managers.
In addition, Power On Connections opened a second depot in London to service its client base in the South East. This created 30 new jobs, representing a 25% growth in the team. In a final demonstration of success, the company 'bucked the trend' by winning 229 new contracts nationwide during 2012 and increasing its turnover by 32% from £25m in 2011 to £33m in 2012.
"Despite a challenging time for the UK's construction industry, we made good, solid progress this past year," said Bob Theobold, managing director at Power On Connections. "This is all testament to the efforts of the team, who continually strive for us to be at the forefront of the industry and deliver high quality service and schemes. To consolidate these achievements with a national award shortlisting is a significant milestone, particularly in the face of such fierce competition. We have everything crossed for the presentation evening, but whatever the outcome, are proud to have come this far."
Power On is one of six shortlisted companies in its category and will now go forward to the next stage, an interview and presentation to the esteemed panel of judges. The Construction News Specialist Awards will be presented at a ceremony at the Hilton, Park Lane on 26th March 2013.
