A site which has been vacant since 2010 has been sold to a housing developer, generating more than £2 million for Peterborough City Council's budget.

Vawser Lodge on Thorpe Road, Peterborough, has been sold to HID Estates Ltd. The 3.11 acre site sits within the Hospital Opportunity Area, which is largely made up of the former Peterborough District Hospital site.

HID Estates Ltd will shortly be submitting details to the Local Planning Authority for a high quality residential scheme taking account of the mature trees on site.

Vawser Lodge was formerly a care home for the elderly which was closed in 2010 and was subsequently demolished in 2012.

Councillor Marco Cereste, Leader of Peterborough City Council, said: "Vawser Lodge is a prime residential site close to the city centre so I am delighted that it has been sold to generate additional income and housing for the city.

"We have ambitious growth plans for the city which includes attracting new businesses and people to Peterborough. To achieve this we need to make sure that we have enough good quality housing so we are delighted that HID Estates Ltd will be helping us to achieve this goal."
