The Costain-Carillion Joint Venture (JV) has won two awards at the Highways Agency's Supplier Recognition Scheme, which recognises suppliers who demonstrate class-leading performance in driving down costs and delivering increasingly efficient and effective customer services, and promoting best practice in the Agency's supply chain.
Now in its second year, the annual recognition programme highlights the important contribution made by the Agency's suppliers, who play a vital role in supporting the Agency in operating, maintaining and improving the strategic road network in England.
The awards ceremony took place in Birmingham and was attended by the Agency's supply chain network.
The Costain-Carillion JV is working on a new managed motorway scheme which uses variable speed limits to help manage the flow of traffic and the hard shoulder to give extra capacity when traffic levels increase. The scheme went live between Junctions 10 and 11 in July 2012 and is due to be completed by spring 2013.
The team won the 'Managing down cost/Improving value' Award for their work in achieving efficiencies on the M1 J10-13 Improvement Scheme. This was awarded to suppliers that had demonstrated significant achievement in mobilising all their talents and resources to deliver smarter and more efficient ways of working in delivering HA contracts. Costain-Carillion received the award jointly, with Amey, for its work on Area 9 MAC.
The Costain-Carillion JV team also won the Health and Safety Award for their safety record on the M1 J10-13 Improvement Scheme. Winners in this category had to show industry leading commitment to improving organisation and workforce health and safety.
