Council tenants are to benefit from a multi-million pound investment programme by West Lancs Borough Council that will provide new kitchens and bathrooms in thousands of homes over the next five years.

Refurbishment work will be carried out in the majority of properties in the Council's biggest-ever project to improve living conditions for tenants.

The Council will spend £6.4 million on fitting 1,400 kitchens and 1,200 bathrooms during 2013 and 2014, and further funding will be allocated in future years. In total over the five year period 4,800 homes will receive a new bathroom.

Councillor Val Hopley, portfolio holder for landlord services, said: "I am delighted to be able to announce that this massive investment programme will start in 2013. The Council is committed to providing high quality housing and this scheme will deliver the improvements that tenants have said they want to see in their homes."

Work is scheduled to start in March 2013 as soon as contractors have been appointed.
