Wallsend Housing Scheme Nears Completion

North Tyneside Elected Mayor Linda Arkley has seen at first hand the work to build new affordable housing in Wallsend town centre.

Mrs Arkley was given a tour of Diamond House recently, a development of 33 affordable homes on the former Borough Theatre site on High Street East.

Developed by Isos Housing and part-funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), the scheme is due for completion in February 2013.

North Tyneside Elected Mayor Linda Arkley said: "I'm committed to providing a high quality housing offer as we continue to grow our borough.

"It's why I bring together developers, registered providers and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), so we can explore how to provide a range of housing for our current and future residents.

"What's pleasing is how this partnership is delivering some real results and the housing scheme on the site of Wallsend’s Borough Theatre is an excellent example of this."

A meeting between North Tyneside Council, registered providers, developers and the HCA is held every six months. The most recent was held at the council’s Quadrant HQ on December 7 and attended by 17 organisations.
