Union Urges Construction Workers To Make Sure They Receive Pay Increase

Construction News Image
Construction union UCATT is urging construction workers to make sure that they receive pay increases which come into effect from today, Monday 7th January.

Pay rates for workers covered by the Construction industry Joint Council (CIJC) have increased by 2%. The minimum pay rates for workers under the agreement are now £8.03 for a general operative rising to £10.67 for a craft worker.

The CIJC is the largest industrial agreement in the construction industry and in the region of 500,000 workers are covered by the agreement.

Steve Murphy, General Secretary of UCATT, said: "Construction workers undertake physical demanding highly skilled jobs, it is essential that all companies covered by the CIJC pay the agreed increase.

"UCATT will pursue any company that denies our members a pay increase that they are legally entitled to. If a company tries to avoid paying the correct rate, than they will be named and shamed. Employers must realise that they can’t grow rich by denying workers fair pay."

Travel and subsistence allowances for construction workers covered by the CIJC increased from Monday 2nd July 2012.

If UCATT members do not receive the agreed pay increase they should contact their regional office.
