Energy company E.ON and a Vauxhall-based housing association joined forces to offer local residents the chance to learn how to make their Christmas brighter this year.

Tenants of the Eldonian Community Based Housing Association were invited along to a Christmas buffet at the Eldonian Village Hall, where advisors from fuel poverty charity National Energy Action were on hand with tips on reducing their energy use and saving money on their fuel bills.

All those who attended received a free energy-saving TV PowerDown, which automatically switches TV peripherals such as DVD players and games consoles on and off when you turn your TV on and off. Eco-kettles and low energy light bulbs were also given away at the informal event.

Alison Gibson, Senior Community Relations Officer with E.ON, said: "It's never been more important for energy companies and community groups to work together to make sure energy isn't being wasted in the home.

"Events like this provide a real opportunity for us to let people know about simple steps they can take to cut their energy use at home, while still keeping themselves warm and comfortable."
