Work has begun on a £5.9 million mixed tenure housing development which Lovell is delivering on the Heston Farm Estate in Hounslow, west London, for the London Borough of Hounslow and Hounslow Homes.
The new four-storey, U-shaped development of apartments will comprise 41 energy-efficient homes on the former Passingham House sheltered housing site.
Hounslow and Hounslow Homes as part of a major regeneration programme in Heston on the Brabazon, Northfield Road and Redwood Estates and at Harlech Gardens and Norman Crescent. The programme will see the construction of 157 new homes in total: 69 for sale through Lovell, 63 for affordable rent and 25 for intermediate rent.
The new Heston Farm development, will feature a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments and maisonettes. The new homes will consist of 17 Lovell homes for sale, five low-cost, home ownership homes through the Lovell Choice shared equity scheme and 19 units for affordable rent for Hounslow Homes, including two homes designed for residents who use wheelchairs. The development is due for completion in 2014.
Martyn Kingsford, chair of Hounslow Homes Board, comments: "This scheme will meet the code of sustainable homes and over the years will save real money for our tenants and the owner occupiers; especially at a time when the government has announced that energy costs will rise substantially."
The properties will meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes for environmental performance and will be 44 per cent more energy-efficient than homes built to current building regulations making them cheaper for residents to run. Green features include south-facing solar thermal panels on the south-east and south-west facing roofs which generate renewable energy for heating water.
