he Morgan Sindall Grontmij joint venture is due to start work this month on a circa £22 million project with Yorkshire Water Services to improve Bridlington's bathing water quality.
The work required includes the construction of two new combined sewer overflow chambers and an 800 metre long, two metre diameter, storm water tunnel.
In addition, a new storm water pumping station, which will also incorporate a public toilet facility, will be constructed and the existing Headworks building extended and its pumps upgraded.
The Morgan Sindall Grontmij team will be working at four separate sites across Bridlington: Palace Car Park, Hilderthorpe Road, South Marine Drive and Princess Mary Promenade.
Jag Paddam, managing director of Infrastructure at Morgan Sindall, said: "Morgan Sindall and Grontmij has a strong working relationship built upon many years of successful partnership and are looking forward to starting work on this important scheme. The team’s combined strengths and expertise will help to ensure that Yorkshire Water Services’ improvement plans are a success.
"Once the works are complete, the quality of the water off Bridlington's beaches will be much improved."
The Bridlington project, which is due to be completed in April 2014, has been awarded as part of the AMP5 Yorkshire Water Framework, to which Morgan Sindall and Grontmij were appointed in August 2010. Projects under this framework range in value from £5 million to £50 million and include clean water and waste water projects from feasibility through design and construction to commissioning and handover.
