Work on a new section of the Wray Valley Trail through Bovey Tracey is set to get underway before Christmas.

The trail, which follows the old Newton Abbot to Moretonhampstead railway line, will connect Mill Marsh Park and Parke by passing beneath the A382 at Hole Bridge and will be accessible for, pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchairs users, as well as those with pushchairs.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: "This trail will provide a safe route for all residents and visitors to Parke by not having to cross the busy A382, which is great news.

"A lot of work has gone in to reaching this stage, and I am sure that once complete the trail will prove to be an excellent addition to our growing cycle network which is fast turning Devon into a premier designation for cycling and cycle tourism.

"The first phase of the trail is already a popular route with leisure cyclists and walkers, and has benefitted the local economy by attracting many visitors to enjoy walking and cycling, and this next stage can only add to that success."
