Lovell is set to build new council homes for North Lanarkshire Council on the site of a former primary school in Airdrie.

The £1.3 million redevelopment of the former Albert Primary School site in North Biggar Road, east of the town centre, will see Lovell building 14 new two-bedroom flats for social rent as part of the council’s Building for the Future programme. The disused school buildings have been demolished.

Lovell, which is a framework partner of the Council, was awarded the project following a competitive tender. The company will start work on the 40-week construction programme in spring 2013. The scheme will enable Lovell to create four new jobs and an apprenticeship locally as well as offering work experience placements in a variety of roles on site and at its Scottish office headquarters in Glasgow.

"Our new-build programme is making great progress," explained Councillor Sam Love, Convener of Housing and Social Work Services, "and the approval of this latest contract with Lovell ensures this momentum continues.

"The scheme will create modern homes fit for the 21st century and bring a boost to the local community as well as the local economy. I look forward to these progressing and working with Lovell on another successful phase."
