Morgan Sindall has been awarded a £31 million contract at Heathrow Airport.

The runway rehabilitation project was awarded under a competitive tendering process. Morgan Sindall has worked extensively at Heathrow airport, both on the airfield and terminal works, for over 20 years.

The project involves repairing and replacing the existing wearing course on the northern and southern runways. Both will be surfaced with Marshall Asphalt provided by an on-site coating plant.

Morgan Sindall will also replace the lights on both runways, construct three new rapid exit taxiways (RETs) on the south runway and restore all 13 entrances / exits on the northern runway. The work will be carried out at night during runway closures, with the runway handed back to the airport each morning to allow operations to resume.

The runway rehabilitation project is due for completion in autumn 2014.
