Cowbridge, Wales, is one step closer to a new supermarket as contractor Kier Construction celebrated the completion of the shell of the new Waitrose store with site owners R S Bird.

The new supermarket is located on Birds Lane, just off Cowbridge’s High Street on the 2.6-acre site of the former garden centre. The 2,000sq m store is currently undergoing an internal fit out ahead of its official opening on 1 November 2012.

Kier has also constructed four non-food retail units on the site, totalling 661sq m, and 138 car parking spaces have been provided.

Heather Brock of R S Bird, the family-owned company from Cowbridge that is developing the site, said: "Kier has been incredibly understanding of the family's attachment to the site, and has cheerfully put up with its fascination, as first demolition and then building took place. It’s great to be able to celebrate with the Kier team."
