ISG has been appointed by Your Homes, the Arm's Length Management Organisation (ALMO) responsible for managing council homes on behalf of Newcastle City Council, to carry out improvement works on three multi-storey high rise properties in the north west of the city.
The £1.2 million project sees ISG carry out extensive defects testing on the existing render on each of the three, 12-storey blocks, and replacing damaged areas of the façade with a high specification mineral board and render system. This retrofit solution will provide enhanced U-Values, enabling the buildings to meet European guidelines on carbon emissions, as well as generating cost savings for residents through reduced heating bills.
Operating across a busy live environment, ISG has developed a robust programme of works to ensure that the 197 tenants are unaffected throughout the duration of the fast-track improvement project.
ISG's Andy Mallice, regional managing director, commented: "ISG is building a niche specialism for complex, multi-storey façade improvement schemes with major UK housing association providers. The ability to deliver a fast-track programme, whilst minimising disruption to tenants, requires a skilled approach and close tenant liaison is an essential part of this process, ensuring residents are informed at all stages of the project and through a range of communication channels.
"Once the work has been completed, tenants will see the dual benefit of an improvement to the overall appearance of the residential blocks, as well as the potential for cost savings on fuel bills due to the enhanced thermal performance of the upgraded external envelope."
