Morgan Sindall To Build £5m School Campus

Primary school pupils in Ynysboeth, Cynon Valley, are to get a new £5 million school campus that will bring together two schools in one building for the first time in over half a century.

Ynysboeth Infant School and Ynysboeth Junior School will be amalgamated to create Ynysboeth Primary School, offering bright, modern facilities of the highest-possible design and environmental standards.

The new Primary School campus will be built on the site of the current Ynysboeth Junior School in Abercynon Road, which has been accommodating Junior and Infant School pupils following a fire that destroyed the Infant school in 2010.

The 160 pupils from both schools will be transferred to a temporary campus at the former infant school site until the new school is complete in Autumn 2013.

The new Ynysboeth Primary School campus will be delivered by Cardiff-based Morgan Sindall construction and will comprise seven classrooms, which includes a nursery, a main hall space, a reception area and a landscaped external teaching space.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and construction partner Morgan Sindall will deliver the impressive new scheme, which forms part of the wider, ongoing commitment to deliver school buildings and environments that inspire children to succeed and thrive.

As well as exceptional facilities for young learners, the new school will, as with other new-builds in Rhondda Cynon Taf in recent years, have an "Excellent" BREEM rating and a Grade A Energy Performance Certificate. It will use eco-measures such as photovoltaic cells that convert solar energy into electricity.

This is the first project to be delivered by Morgan Sindall under the South East Wales Schools Capital Working Group (SEWSCAP) framework, after it was appointed as a partner in May 2011.

Tom Davies, operations manager for Morgan Sindall in South East Wales, said: "The community in Ynysboeth has keenly felt the loss of the infant school building. It’s fantastic to be in a position to deliver such an important project to local children. The Morgan Sindall team has a wealth of experience in delivering education projects and will be working hard to ensure minimum disruption to the local residents and pupils."
