Property development and regeneration company Places for People has appointed Lovell to build a 39-home development in Newcastle as part of the major Walker Riverside regeneration project.

The scheme is the second phase of Places for People’s award-winning Rivers Gate development. All the properties – a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes – will be for rent through Places for People.

Building work will start in late September with the development, designed by Bowker Sadler Architecture, set to be completed in January 2014. The scheme was awarded to Lovell through the Homes and Communities Agency’s Delivery Partner Panel.

The 39 new homes will be built using traditional construction methods and will achieve Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. They are designed to meet Secured by Design criteria – incorporating design measures to improve safety and protect against crime - and the Lifetime Homes standard which means they can be readily adapted to meet the needs of residents throughout their lives. They are also designed to achieve the Building for Life national standard for well-designed homes and neighbourhoods.

The first phase of the Rivers Gate development - 107 homes for sale, shared ownership and affordable rent – was finished in August 2008. The scheme’s striking design saw it win an RICS Renaissance award and a Building for Life Gold award.
