PEFC Demonstrates Global Reach At UK Trade Shows

Three of the world's leading forest certification organisations will share a stand at Timber Expo to promote and educate visitors on a wide range of issues surrounding the supply of legal and sustainable timber into the UK market.

Joining PEFC UK will be the North American based Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and partnering PEFC for the second time at the show will be the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) – both leading members of PEFC's global network.

With a huge focus on supplying the latest information on legal and sustainable forest certification and the introduction of the EUTR to the UK in 2013, there has never been a better time to meet all three certification bodies at the same time to glean the most up-to-date knowledge. To help understand the vast and complex resource of tropical timber, the Malaysian Timber Certification Council will be available to provide a wide range of information about Malaysia's sustainable forestry management methods. With SFI, visitors will be able to learn more about one of the most widely recognised certification systems across Canada and the United States.

Alun Watkins, who heads up PEFC in the UK commented: "PEFC UK is delighted to be exhibiting with two of the PEFC family’s leading members – SFI and MTCC. PEFC is the world's largest certification system and we are confident that Timber Expo will provide a unique opportunity for all three organisations to engage visitors in discussions on certified timber."

Alun will be giving a presentation on procurement policies and building codes that encourage the growth of certified timber in UK Construction. This will take place on Wed 26 Sept at 11am in Seminar Theatre 3. The seminar theatre was designed and built by Deeside Timberframe and James Jones & Sons – both PEFC Chain of Custody certified companies.

PEFC UK will also be launching the latest of its industry brochures. Joinery, Fit Out and Certified Timber is aimed at informing everyone from large fit out companies to the smallest joinery firm about the increasing requirements and expectations of timber to come from independently certified sources. Whether you are working with sheet materials such as plywood, hardboard, chipboard, OSB or MDF to working on hotel, commercial and retail joinery schemes including pub, bar or shop fit out, there are a range of Chain of Custody options available. Joinery, Fit Out and Certified Timber will be available at Timber Expo and downloadable from www.pefc.co.uk.

This year also sees the return of W12 with a new co-located event. Working with Design, will be held at the NEC in Birmingham from 7 to 10 October 2012 as part of W12. This will also be a special event for PEFC-certified Italian company Cominotto Legnami that will be exhibiting for the third time in the last ten years. Based in the north-East

of Italy, Cominotto Legnami specialises in the processing of European hardwoods such as beech, ash, cherry, oak and maple. The company is looking to forge working relationships and business links with companies in the UK and Northern Europe looking for PEFC-certified materials.
