Interserve has been selected by Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust to deliver a £25 million ultra modern radiotherapy centre to be built at Colchester General Hospital as part of a ProCure21+ scheme.

The new building will replace the current radiotherapy centre at Essex County Hospital, and will incorporate five ‘bunkers’. Initially, three new linear accelerators (the specialist equipment used during radiotherapy treatment) will be installed and the remaining two bunkers will be fitted out later, as demand is expected to rise in the future.

Commenting on the project, Chris Mardell, Regional Manager of Interserve said: "We are delighted to be appointed by Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust, and look forward to continuing the excellent working relationship we have established with the Trust and other stakeholders to deliver this important project. The new building, which is a centre of excellence for cancer treatment incorporating the most up-to-date radiotherapy machines, will provide a first-class environment for patients and carers. Through this scheme we will strengthen our existing links with the county, and create opportunities for the local supply chain to benefit from the project."
