Mansell's Stourbridge-based Western Region has appointed a full time skills co-ordinator after achieving National Skills Academy for Construction status for its building projects.
Shazad Ahmed joins Mansell from Wolverhampton Homes, where he was a National Skills Academy for Construction project skills co-ordinator on the Decent Homes programme.
Shazad, who is 35 and lives in Wolverhampton, will be responsible for establishing employment and training targets to include apprenticeships, work experience and upskilling existing staff, as well as working with local schools and colleges to promote the construction industry. He will work closely with site teams and Mansell’s supply chain partners who are also involved in the programme.
Achieving National Skills Academy for Construction status earlier this year was a major accolade for Mansell and means that local people will be offered construction training opportunities at all levels, delivered directly on-site.
The training hub for the programme is based at Mansell's Stourbridge offices, with satellite training facilities available on the company’s larger sites.
The National Skills Academy for Construction is an employer-led initiative hosted by CITB Construction Skills, the sector Skills Council and Industry Training Board for construction. The initiative aims to deliver high quality, tailored training on-site, both to prepare people for jobs, to up-skill the existing workforce and to attract new blood into the industry.
