Birse Civils has been awarded a £5.1 million contract to construct a new flood risk management scheme in Derbyshire by the Environment Agency.

The Lower Dove Flood Risk Management Scheme is designed to provide protection to over 1,600 residential and major commercial properties in the villages of Scropton, Hatton, Tutbury and Egginton.

Birse Civils, Regional Managing Director, Tony Jackson said: "We are delighted to receive another significant award from the Environment Agency. It follows extensive ECI and community engagement work carried out in collaboration with the Environment Agency. We are looking forward to delivering a successful project."

The works are concentrated on the Lower River Dove which creates the demarcation of the Staffordshire/Derbyshire county border. Works comprise raising existing flood embankments as well as construction of new flow control structures and flood embankments. Additionally existing highways will be raised to meet new flood defence levels and flood walls adjacent to existing building, including Grade II listed buildings, will be constructed.
