Work has started on a major programme of maintenance work at Rushcliffe School and Leisure Complex on Boundary Road, West Bridgford.

Contractors, working on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, are carrying out the £500,000 scheme in two phases.

Work to the Sixth Form Block will be carried out first so that it is completed in time for students returning after the summer break. Work to the Leisure Centre will then follow from September.

Scaffolding has been erected around the site so that asbestos in roof areas in various buildings can be safely removed and disposed of. Asbestos was a common building material when the site was built in the 1960s.

Removing the asbestos will allow electrical wiring to be replaced and updated.

Over the course of the work, there may be times when some areas of the Leisure Centre may be out of bounds to allow the work to progress safely. However, as much of the work as possible will take place out-of-hours so that disruption is kept to an absolute minimum,

The order of works is planned in advance so that adequate notice of any disruption can be given to customers.

All the work is due for completion by the end of this year.
