Coventry's largest housing redevelopment scheme, Spirit Quarters, is up for a national award at the 2012 Regeneration and Renewal Awards.
The £360m scheme has been shortlisted in the Best Community-led Regeneration category at the renowned industry awards for its commitment to putting the community in the driving seat for the scheme.
Ranging from strong consultation and community engagement with the wider community, through to resident decision-making, the scheme has proven that it is one of the best in the country.
Martin Smith, a Henley Green resident and Chair of the Regeneration Action Team, said: "Residents have played an important part of the regeneration in this neighbourhood from the very start as we were successful in securing the New Deal for Communities funding which helped kick-start the scheme. We have been involved in selecting a developer, producing a regular newsletter, a Residents Charter and also choosing design codes for the new properties as well as setting up support groups for people moving house – to name a few examples. We have also had good support from the partners involved in the scheme too, so it's right that we all share in the success of this award."
