Bison Manufacturing, the UK's leading precast concrete manufacturer, has supplied and installed precast components for a new £17 million student accommodation project at the University of Warwick.
The order from Main Contractor Shepherd Construction Limited consisted of 15,800m² of pre-stressed Hollowcore flooring and 67m³ of precast concrete stair components, which were all manufactured out of Bison’s award winning manufacturing facility at Swadlincote.
These products will deliver the required performance for both structural and acoustic purposes to six accommodation blocks, which will provide 500 student bedrooms, purpose built to house postgraduate students.
Stuart Fanshaw, Project Leader at Shepherd Construction Limited commented: "We have worked alongside Bison on previous projects and this was a driving factor in our decision to use them again. Their technical input at initial design stage and overall performance throughout the construction of the project was paramount in ensuring the scheme was delivered within programme.
"This project needed to be in line with the client’s specification and site performance was paramount due to the tight phasing of the project over the six blocks."
It is expected that the new accommodation blocks will achieve a BREEAM rating of 'Excellent' when it opens in later in 2012.
